After his first wife died, Vides married Lourdes Llach, daughter of a coffee baron, amateur astronomer, and former Salvadoran ambassador to the Holy See from 1977 to 1991 Prudencio Llach Schonenberg. He has three children namely María Gema Vides Meléndez, Marta Del Carmen Vides Demmer, and Geraldo Vides Meléndez.
